The project investigated the applicability of mineral surface chemical analyses by time‑of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) as a tool for predicting the chemical reactivity of the ore. The results were used to create a database relating mineralogy to chemical reactivity as a potential aide in designing and optimizing flotation schemes.
The program, as originally designed, has been modified in consultation with Mr. Chris Martin to better reflect the goal of “commercialization”. Implementation testing of the technology as a regular analytical tool was sucessful and can enable metallurgists to design flotation schemes based on the mineralogy along with the “chemical reactivity” of the ore in question.
